Happy Slob Cleaning Kits 101

Hello, my fellow slobbos! Today's lesson is on an essential of the Happy Slob's Guide to Housecleaning - a healthy CLEANING KIT. Your cleaning kit is basically all of your cleaning stuff stored in an easily totable container. Nothing complicated, I assure you.

Okay, stop rolling your eyes. I know you likely think that a cleaning kit is a silly, entirely TOO prissy thing to bother with. But cleaning kits will make cleaning FASTER and EASIER for you. Plus, it takes about five minutes to put one together. So come on and give it a try. You'll be pleasantly surprised by how much it helps you get your nasty cleaning done and over with...so you can get on with the more interesting aspects of life.

The Essentials

>>> The Container <<<
Right, first you need something to CARRY your cleaning supplies. I used to use a plastic storage container, but that got cumbersome. Now, I just use an (don't laugh) old dishwasher detergent container. It's fantastic - a big bucket with a durable handle. PERFECTO. Use anything large enough to hold your few supplies - and a handle makes it easier to carry around.

>>> Cloths, Sponges, Etc. <<<
Okay, you've got your groovin' Happy Slob-style cleaning kit CONTAINER. Now, you need an assortment of paper towels, cloths, sponges and maybe a cleaning brush. I love SCRUBBY SPONGES, so I always have a couple of those in my cleaning kit. An old toothbrush is excellent for getting into little nooks and crannies. And old newspapers are great for shining mirrors or windows.

>>> Bags <<<
Right, you now need a few garbage bags or plastic grocery bags stuffed in your cleaning kit. Incredibly handy for throwing out garbage as you go AND/OR toting junk from one room to the room where the stuff belongs.

>>> Cleaners <<<
You'll need:
* 'shiny' cleaner (for glass and windows - homemade or commercial)
* 'gritty' cleaner (for scrubbing sinks, toilets, baths, etc.)
* all purpose cleaner (for all surfaces...I like using my homemade vinegar cleaner for surfaces & mirrors - takes less space in my cleaning kit too.)
* 'germ killer' cleaner - your favorite cleaner for killing all those microscopic little nasties
* wood polish - to, urm, shine wood (surprise! surprise!)
* baking soda - useful as a cleaner and deodorizer; keep it in a shaker to make it easy to use
* duster - electrostatic ones make dusting REALLY easy - the static electricity attracts the dust and makes it stick

That's it! You'll also need a broom & dustpan, and a mop & bucket combo. Now, you'll have everything you need at hand when you do your cleaning bursts, focus room cleaning, or weekly Clean for Alls.
