How to Clean Your Laminate Floors

One Happy Slob reader (Kim, to be exact) wrote me the following question:
"I have laminate wood floors and I love them. But was wondering how do you clean laminate floors? I usually swiffer them and then use a clorox wet mop on them, but was wondering if there was an easier way to get them clean without going over them twice. What do you do? Thanks in advance."

Hey Kim
Thanks for writing in! As you're well aware, laminate floors look great. PLUS, they're way easier to take care of than hardwood - so they're a great option. I wouldn't lie to you - laminate flooring is a cinch to clean.

Now Kim -- you don't need to spend a lot on fancy cleaners unless you really want to. ;) In which case, you should likely also buy 12 of my books! hardy har har...Back to the topic at hand: As always, our handy friend - VINEGAR - plays a vital role in cleaning laminate floors. A solution of vinegar and water will be the cleaner you'll use - but use even less vinegar than we HAPPY SLOBS usually do. Only a few tablespoons in a fairly large spray bottle will do the trick. Then top up with plain tap water, give the mix a good shake, and you're ready. There's no exact measurement - this isn't rocket science, thankfully - so don't worry too much about getting it JUST RIGHT.

A Swiffer or other brand dry mop will really help - just spray your homemade cleaner on the floors and mop up with a Swiffer dry mop. Or, microfiber cloths work great too. Laminate is a lot easier than hardwood to take care of -- it just isn't as finicky. Enjoy your gorgeous shining floors!
