Laundry Tips
Okay, I'm not a laundry genius by any means. But, this handy webpage is going to be a place where I collect all the gems of laundry knowledge that all of us happy slobs need to control the ever growing piles lurking in our laundry baskets. Hope all of these helpful laundry tips do indeed help YOU!
Baking Soda Paste - This is a great way to 'convince' some stains to go away! Just create a thick paste of baking soda and water, and use on fresh stains with a soft toothbrush. Rinse in cool (never hot) water - the hot water could cause the stain to set further into the fabric.
Fresher Smelling Laundry -- This is easy to achieve by adding about 1/2 cup of regular baking soda to your laundry OR about a cup of vinegar to your washer load. This also acts as a natural fabric softener at the same time - talk about a handy two-in-one product!
Overloading -- In a word, don't! We happy slobs think that shoving as much laundry into one load as is humanly possible is a great feat! Not so much - it really doesn't get your laundry clean, meaning you'll likely just have to redo them anyway.
Ring Around the Collar -- I've got a fun and simple tip on getting rid of this nasty, hard to remove stain. You should have an old toothbrush in your cleaning kit - grab that (or a cheap new one to use exclusively for this purpose - just make sure that it's a soft bristled brush to not harm the fabric) and use a little squirt of your favorite bubble bath or shampoo on the toothbrush. Moisten and use on the ring! It will help dissolve the nasty oily stain that IS ring around the collar.
Sorting Laundry - and no, that doesn't mean grabbing the nearest pile and calling it 'sorted'. (More like assorted!) Basically, you need to sort laundry into these separate piles: whites, colors, and extra dirty clothes. Easy, right?
Sweaters - Don't shrink your favorite sweater! Let it air dry by setting it out on a drying rack, or just any flat surface with a towel underneath to soak up extra moisture.
