Cleaning a Lint Trap - Happy Slob's Housecleaning

How to Clean a Dryer Lint Trap

Interesting...in our last newsletter one Happy Slob asked if it was true that using fabric softener sheets cause a film on the dryer's lint trap, thus causing the dryer to use more energy and make the dryer conk out once and for a lot sooner. Who knew? Apparently - some happy slobs DID know and they have the answers!

Soapy Water/Nailbrush Trick

"I read about this a couple of years ago. I then tried the water test and not a drop ran through the screen. I now clean mine after every 4 or 5 loads. As the washer is filling, I submerge the lint trap in the soapy water and give it a light scrubbing with a nail brush. You'll be amazed at the difference it makes in how quickly a load dries with a clean lint trap."

Jude says:
"Washing the lint filter in your clothes dryer can help extend the lifespan of that appliance. This is true according to Urban Legends / Snope."

Linda says:
"Checked this out at snopes.com (a great site to see if something is true or just an urban legend). The dryer sheets CAN clog the lint trap."
