Remove Lipstick Stains - Happy Slob's Housecleaning

Get out That Lippy: Removing Lipstick Stains

Sure, that cherry red lipstick makes YOU look utterly divine, but when you smear some on your favorite dress, you're just not loving it quite so much anymore. What's a Happy Slob to do?

1. Breathe & don't panic. Hyperventilation and the likes will only cause additional smearage of the lippy all over above said garment.

2. If you're out and about and don't have all sorts of lovely cleaning products at your disposal, then try to PREVENT SETTING of the stain more than anything else. This means gently blotting it with a clean cloth and running it under some cool - NEVER HOT - water. (Hot water is the arch enemy of stains -- it helps them settle in and take up permanent residence.)

3. If you're at home, try this technique that is crazy but that works. Do it as soon as possible after the stain has occurred: Use a little mineral or vegetable on the stain and let it sit and absorb into the fibers for about 15 minutes or so. This helps loosen the stain down deep in the fibers of that fabulous-o dress.

4. Next: Blot up the extra oils with paper towels or clean towels of any kind.

5. Rinse with cool water and wring out as much of the water as is humanly possible.

6. Sponge the area with good old fashioned rubbing alcohol. (I've heard that hydrogen peroxide will also work, so just use what you have on hand.)

7. Launder as usual -- or consider taking it to a dry cleaners.

8. Can't get the stain out? Consider adding more lipstick stains all over the garment and making a real statement - you can even go so far as to call it modern art. :)
